All Day Culebra Snorkel and Barbecue Tour

The Island Flyer is a unique twin hulled, wave piercing, motorized vessel that makes the run to Culebra at high speed, covering the distance in about an hour. Culebra is known as one of the “Spanish Virgin Islands”, and it lies half way between Puerto Rico and The U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Puerto Rican Dept. of Natural Resources has recently modified their policies and as a result, it is no longer possible to do beach barbecues at Flamenco Beach. As a result, the Culebra day has changed somewhat, is fol-lowing is the current flow for this excursion..

Depart your chosen resort at a time appropriate to provide for a 9:15 AM arrival at the Marina
Arrive at Island Flyer (Puerto del Rey Marina) – 9:15 AM
Depart dock – 9:30 AM ( we suggest non drowsy Dramamine or the patch)
Arrive Cayo Luis Pena (great snorkel site off of the protected south side Culebra) – 10:20 AM

From here until about 3:00 PM the itinerary is variable, of necessity – it depends upon where the prevailing wind is from and what the sea state is. If there’s not a northerly swell and the sea is 2 -4 ft. the boat will head around to the north side of the island at one point in order to visit Flamenco Beach. It would anchor off of the beach in water deeper than a person’s height, necessitating a swim to shore. If the sea state is such that this visit cannot be made, then the boat would stay on the protected south side of Culebra and visit some other snorkel sites. The snorkeling is normally outstanding. And a great “build your own sandwich buffet” is served at lunch time. Re-freshments include beer, soft drinks, pina colada and rum punch.

Guests will enjoy superb snorkeling (for Culebra has no fresh water runoff to spoil the reefs) in gin clear waters. In the early afternoon, the guests will make a short stop at Dewey, the principal town of Culebra, where they will en-joy a visit to some of the quaint shops, prior to boarding the Island Flyer for their return journey to the Puerto Del Rey Marina, arriving back at 4:00 PM to the pier.

Guests should wear their swim-suit under light clothing, and bring a towel and suntan lotion.

Cost from Puerto Del Rey Marina is $99.00 net per person plus 10 percent gratuity. Round trip transfers from ho-tels in Puerto Rico must be added to this fee. This tour can operate on an exclusive basis with a minimum of 40 persons; the maximum capacity of the Island Flyer is 55. And for larger groups we can bring in additional boats and re-cost this program for you. Round trip transfers from hotel in Puerto Rico must be added to this fee. These round trip transfer rates are:

From Metro area hotels $44.00
From Hyatt Dorado Beach $51.00
From Westin Rio Mar or Paradisus Puerto Rico $44.00
From El Conquistador $35.00
