St. Thomas by Boat
Here’s a great way to get a good volume of passengers over to St. Thomas at a reasonable rate and all at the same time. Embarkation is at Puerto del Rey Marina, located on the eastern tip of the island. Transportation will be aboard the “Island Flyer”, a brand new twin-hulled 65’ Wave-Piercer built by Gold Coast Yachts. This is a motor vessel that sits high above the waves and has two knife-like twin hulls that slice through the water, creating a highly stable platform. Guests will enjoy breathtaking views of Puerto Rico’s east coast as they depart from Puerto del Rey Marina at 8:30 am (9:00 for groups coming from San Juan). They’ll cruise past the string of islands that runs between Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, and each participant will be given the latest issue of the St. Thomas Visitor’s Guide to read dur-ing the crossing as well. Complimentary donuts and small pastries will be served during the trip to St. Thomas in the morning and dry snacks as well as sodas, juices and one Rum Punch or Piña Colada per person on the return journey in the afternoon.
The crew will take care of the custom’s paperwork in St. Thomas so guests will be free to walk and shop as soon as they arrive in the waterfront town of Charlotte Amalie. The boat pulls right up to the sea-wall, so no transfers are required to the shopping center. After a fun filled day of free port shopping guests will re-board the vessel at 4:00 pm. Arrival back at the marina will be between 5:30 and after clearing cus-toms return transportation will be provided from back to your hotel. Note: These times can be adjusted to suit the group’s convenience.
NOTE: It would be wise to not schedule this trip during the months of January and February – the wind at that time of the year can be enough to really make the trip rather uncomfortable. During the rest of the year the sea state is generally pretty good. The trip over to St. Thomas will always be a little less comfortable than the return since the prevailing wind and sea are from the east. Coming back is always smooth sailing. Taking a motion sickness pill in the morning prior to departing the hotel for the marina is a very wise precaution under any circumstances however.
