THE Suite Tower, a new DOSM and a new GM Join La Concha, A Renaissance Resort

La Concha has a new Director of Sales and Marketing, and a new Tower! THE Suite Tower opened in June 2010 with 235 new suites, each with their own small kitchen facility and living room. Along with La Concha’s landmark oceanfront restaurant Perla, owned and operated by Chef Dayn Smith, its 248 modern rooms, 30,000 square feet of meeting space and the trendy lobby area, the property has revitalized the Condado area and become the hip place to meet.

José Joaquín Cruz, a 12 year Marriott veteran including working at the San Juan Marriott, has joined La Concha as the new Director of Sales and Marketing. He leads an outstanding sales force, recognized by Marriott International as Sales Team of the Year for 2009 at both the Regional and Global levels.

And Luis Rivera, formerly the GM of the Courtyard by Marriott Isla Verde, has just recently taken over as General Manager of La Concha and THE Suite Tower.

New Tours, Activities and Adventures at Hacienda Campo Rico

Activities abound at Hacienda Campo Rico, only 15 minutes from most San Juan area hotels. This 2200 acre gem, once a large sugar cane and dairy plantation, consists of tropical coastal plains, limestone mountains, and lush valleys. Until recently the only ATV and Horseback Riding options available to San Juan properties were 40 minutes away in Rio Grande. We now offer a high energy comparable version – trained guides lead you through the trails with views of farmland, mangroves, caves and lagoons.

For those looking for an adrenaline boost, sign up for a half day of eco-adventure – kayaking, hiking and zip-lining all in one. Experience the longest zipline in Puerto Rico, measuring 1,000 feet in length and 200 feet above the ground.

Or try the most recent addition to our menu – Tom Cars. This off-road vehicle is exhilarating and simply put - just a lot of fun to drive. They come in two and four person versions, and provide an extremely stable yet thrilling experience.

All activities are offered at Hacienda Campo Rico, only 15 minutes from San Juan, and 35 minutes from Río Grande. Hacienda Campo Rico also offers several beautiful options for memorable catered functions, including Mi Casa and their Mojito Bar, so we can combine any activity with a group lunch, or even hold a stand alone evening event. For an active group, consider offering your guests “A Day at Hacienda Campo Rico” with multiple adventure options throughout the day. Ask your Sales Manager for more details regarding these or any other activities.

A Familiar Face at the InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino

Willie Chin, veteran hotelier, has returned to the InterContinental San Juan Resort & Casino. Having directed the Sales and Marketing efforts for this property from 2002-2007, Chin left the resort to lead the pre-opening and opening stages of the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel and Casino, at the Convention Center District. This property opened its doors in November of last year, and while a complete success, Chin could not resist returning to his home at the InterContinental. He joins Michael Herrmann, General Manager and Regional Director of Operations for InterContinental Hotel Group’s Latin America-Caribbean Division.

Travel Services, Inc. operates the Tour Desk and is the In-House DMC for the property, a 402-room beachfront resort, whose associates are committed to providing their guests with the ultimate resort experience.

New Luxury Hotels – Condado Vanderbilt & Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve

While St. Regis will be the island’s first five-star, the Condado Vanderbilt will be San Juan’s first five-star property, and is scheduled to open in May 2011. Some may recall the historic Condado Beach Hotel on Ashford Avenue, which first opened its doors in 1919 as the Condado Vanderbilt, and paved the way for upscale tourism on the island. International Hospitality Enterprises, owners of La Concha and El Convento, among others, have taken much care in reconstructing this landmark hotel in the heart of Condado. With 305 guest-rooms, including 120 suites, over 15,000 square feet in meeting space, and Chef Dayn Smith’s newest culinary offering, the Condado Vanderbilt promises to be a jewel in San Juan.

The Dorado Beach Ritz-Carlton Reserve, the island’s first six-star resort, will also be the first Ritz-Carlton Reserve in the Americas, and only the second in the world. Construction is set to begin late summer 2010, and the first phase of the project, consisting of a LEED-certified, 130-room resort with two PGA Championship golf courses, should be completed in 2012. The Dorado Ritz-Reserve will be located 30 minutes east of San Juan. Subsequent phases will include a second luxury hotel with over 300 rooms.

Down the road, Puerto Rico looks forward to welcoming a Mandarin Oriental with 114 rooms, a Regent with 125 rooms in the Palmas del Mar area, and a JW Marriott with 415 rooms on Coco Beach, next to the Gran Melia.

St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort Appoints David Kurland as General Manager

St. Regis Bahia Beach Resort, the island’s first five-star resort, has announced the appointments of three key individuals, sure to guarantee its success. David Kurland has been named General Manager, with Angélica Rodil as Director of Sales & Marketing, and Geraldine Farrulla as Director of Food & Beverage. All three are well known in the Puerto Rico industry, and are highly esteemed for their experience and knowledge.

Kurland’s experience on the island includes the role of President and Managing Partner of the Water Club Hotel, Puerto Rico’s first luxury boutique hotel, as well as running the El San Juan Hotel & Casino. During his tenure at the El San Juan, the property was awarded Puerto Rico Tourism Company’s highest honors for service for five consecutive years.

The St. Regis Bahía Beach Resort, set on 483 acres in the first and only Gold-certified Audubon Signature Sanctuary in Puerto Rico, is scheduled to open on November 4, 2010. Located in Río Grande, the resort is only 35 minutes from San Juan, and will feature 143 guest rooms, private butler service, over 5,000 square feet of ballroom and meeting space, an 18-hole Robert Trent Jones, Jr. professional golf course, a Rémede Spa, and celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s first gastronomic venture in the Caribbean.
